The Road to Character by David Brooks
If I had to eat one thing for the rest of my life, what would it be?
What did you do before this?
I launched & ran a leadership development ministry in Austin, Texas. Prior to this, I helped lead a tech start-up, served as a Legislative Aide for a member of the Texas House of Representatives, and worked at a political and corporate consulting firm.
Experience you’ve had the lends itself to leadership coaching well?
I've run 17 marathons and am currently training for my 2nd full Ironman. I love endurance sports because of the lessons that perfectly parallel to life, leadership, and business. I work with a triathlon coach and have learned a great deal about accountability, motivation, and growth planning that I weave into my coaching.
I was the Drum Manger of the Longhorn Band at the University of Texas. This gave me the opportunity to serve as the primary student leader for the 500-person organization. This experience taught me so much about influence, organizational culture, and service-oriented leadership.
Additionally, I have written curriculum and spoken on effective communication, goal setting, time management, personal development, team leadership, and organizational culture.
Why do you love being a Leadership Coach?
I am passionate about seeing people operate at their absolute best and I believe that this growth occurs just outside the comfort zone. This is at the core of why I love coaching. We get to add value to leaders. And when a leader gets better, everybody wins.
Favorite coaching conversation to have? Why?
There’s a great quote that says “Culture is what you CREATE, or what you TOLERATE.” I light up when a leader gets serious about deliberately CREATING a culture where people and business thrive. Those conversations will NEVER get old.
Favorite EntreLeadership event? Why?
EntreLeadership Summit is the world’s greatest leadership event. I may be biased but just because I’m biased doesn’t mean I’m wrong. Our team consistently brings together the nation’s preeminent speakers, thinkers, and leaders. On top of all this, they never cease to raise the bar on a MIND BLOWING event experience.
